WE CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!

Josh Swenson—the sanctuary looks renewed after you scraped, plastered and painted.

Josh Swenson also accomplished something many have thought about. Visit the nursery to see the lovely window he installed. Two of the children presented him with a homemade sun catcher as their thank you. Let the sun shine in!

Marty Cupp has now given the nursery a much needed fresh coat of paint in fun colors and pattern.

Luella and Arnold Burke—the plants in the sanctuary look refreshed after you gave them TLC, fresh soil, and, in some cases, new containers.

Chrissie Hall, Launa and Duane Jorgensen and Anne Pettigrew—we thank you for bringing autumn into the décor in our sanctuary.

Anne Pettigrew—the colorful, seasonal table-cloths in Hospitality Hall brighten the room and our individual outlook on the day.

Ed Dennison, Cathy Harrington, Carol Marshall, Julia Raddatz, Dave Rodwell, Sue Scarfino, Meryl Smith, Josh Swenson, our board and administration, all gave up a perfect Indian Summer day to work together with a UUA consultant to learn how to better serve our congregation.

Anne Pettigrew—for taking on the task of head usher, which entails finding volunteers, scheduling within their individual schedules, informing of new policies such as encouraging "quiet time" in the sanctuary before the service.

Lou Yock‘s class on BioEthics ("Bioethics - the study of moral issues in the fields of biomedical research and treatment.") encourages us to think and to share our thoughts while bringing today‘s headlines into focus.

MUSICAL MONTAGE
Alison Puffer, director of the Gospel Gals, designated October 1, 2011 as the end of the first season for this new singing group. The women - and the congregation - look forward to starting up again in the spring.

Our choir members, as their contribution to our worship services, give their all even as their numbers vary from Sunday to Sunday. On October 9, Peg and Kent Gage, Chrissie Hall, Didi and Lynn Hoepfinger were the small but mighty group directed by Julie Sherlock.

Didi Hoepfinger put together an eclectic musical group for October 16. Four members of the Ludington Recorder Players (Peg Gage, soprano; Christine Reed-Fast, alto; Lynn Hoepfinger, tenor; and Kent Gage, bass), presented the musical welcome Ashoken Farewell by J. Ungar; and the offering and dedication of Tryggare Kan Ingen Vara by O. Ahnfelt. Didi’s meditation was "You‘ll Never Walk Alone" using the organ stop. The postlude was presented by our newest members, Bob and Susan Zahrobsky who played Bésame Mucho on accordion, maracas and claves.

Dave Hall, active friend to the hearing-challenged, tweaks and tweaks our sound system so that everyone gets the most out of every service and event offered at People‘s Church.

Todd Henrickson and George Dila prepared the soups for the first Peace Vespers of the season. These went well with the bread made by Andy Clem, Cathy‘s son. And Judy Harrington’s brownies always end a meal with a smile. Music was provided by George Kelen.

Teresa Hillman and Christine Reed-Fast are once again chairing our Thanksgiving potluck, no small task since a crowd of at least 100 is expected. Let Carol Marshall know how you can support this event.

Marilyn Steiner, bookkeeper, Carol Marshall, administrator, and Ed Dennison, treasurer, are devoting much of their valuable time toward making our finances more transparent and easier to track. All three are working hard to master the new computer program which provides the structure .

THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF BEING LAST!!

WHEN YOU ARE THE LAST PERSON TO LEAVE OUR BUILDING, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT ONLY TO MAKE SURE ALL DOORS ARE LOCKED, BUT THAT ALL ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES ARE TURNED OFF. “AN UNWATCHED POT….”

SPRUCE IT UP!

Dear friends, I am putting together a team of members and friends who would like to work at the Church this Spring to spruce up a bit. We need to sparkle, patch and paint; mend, fix and stain; and just make us sparkle!
This effort will need your time and energy, but I think it's worth it! Won't you help? No experience necessary - just the desire. Once I hear from you, I will begin to schedule a week in the Spring when it is convenient for everyone.

CALLING THE MUSICALLY TALENTED!

Do you have a musical talent to share? Do you know anyone who does? Don't be shy! We know you're out there! Although musicians of all ages are encouraged to share their music with us at any time of the year, they are most welcomed while our choir is away for the winter season. If you (or anyone you know) is interested in performing during our services, please contact Julie Sherlock at 231.233.5684 or Sarabande4@aol.com

People’s Church is offering “Singing the Journey” the supplemental hymnal which we will begin using at our worship services.

These hymnals are available for dedication or sponsorship for a donation
of $25 each. Dedicate 1, 5, 10 or more. Each hymnal will contain your inscription.

Contact Carol Marshall for more information!

NOTE TO THE CONGREGATION….

Hospitality hosting is an important service at People's Church. We appreciate those who help our church by serving as hosts. To make this more convenient for those of you who serve, please let me know what months are best for you: email me at crfast@charter.net with a list of at least four months that are best for you for hosting. This will help me in assigning hosting dates. Thank you for your co-operation.

Christine Reed-Fast

Thank you, Christine, for volunteering for these important tasks. We UUs may
appear independent but we really like to have supervision.

CLASSIFIED AD - HELP WANTED!

With the number of new members and friends in our congregation, it seems a good time to make note of the opportunities available for volunteer work right here in our Own church community. As a small church, volunteer burnout is inevitable unless we can expand the number of people sharing the work. One area where help is needed, Simply because there are only four of us currently involved, is that of Sanctuary Keeping. For those months where there are 5 Sundays, or at those times when one or two of us might be ill or out of town, we are left doing double duty, or desperately searching for someone who might fill in. Sanctuary Keepers arrive early to make sure doors are unlocked and lights on. They replenish candles used in the service, place glasses of water in the pulpit for the Minister and the Worship Associate, straighten chairs, pick up wayward leaves and other detritus in the sanctuary, water plants, and generally make the room orderly and pleasant. Following the service, the procedure is essentially reversed and, unless those in charge of Social Hour have their own keys, the Sanctuary Keeper stays to close up the building. This rarely is necessary. Detailed instructions are available to make the entire process easy to remember and follow. If you would consider being a substitute Sanctuary Keeper, on call for those Sundays when help is needed, see Anne Pettigrew, Alice Dennison, Carolyn Beeker or Carol Farley. We'll see that you get an informal training and answer any questions. Please note that failure to water Mary Markov's plant is the only serious offense possible. Beyond that, there is a deep satisfaction in facilitating our Sunday morning worship.
